Setting your preferred address

How to choose the address of your event page and see right away whether your preferred name is still free.

Written by Max Weber

Your page gets its own address on the web, and you decide what it is called. For example anna-und-max.unsere-einladung.de. This is exactly the link you will later send to your guests, so it is more than welcome to sound like you.

How to set your address

  1. Open Einstellungen → Subdomain (Settings → Subdomain). There you will find the „Deine Event-Seite" (your event page) card.

  2. Enter your preferred name in the „URL deiner Seite" (URL of your page) field. The ending .unsere-einladung.de is fixed and is added automatically.

  3. Wait a moment for the status display. „Prüfe Verfügbarkeit..." (checking availability) turns into either „Verfügbar" (available) or „Diese Adresse ist bereits vergeben" (this address is already taken).

  4. Click „Subdomain speichern" (save subdomain) as soon as you like the name.

Once your address is set, the next step is to decide under Webseite (website) whether your guests see your Save the Date or your invitation first.

During the first setup, the wizard already asks for your preferred name in the „Subdomain" step. You can calmly change it again afterwards, as long as your page has not been published yet.

Which names are allowed

  • Length: at least 3 and at most 30 characters.

  • Characters: letters, numbers and hyphens. A hyphen must not be at the beginning or at the end.

  • Umlauts and special characters: are rewritten automatically. ä becomes ae, ö becomes oe, ü becomes ue, ß becomes ss. Spaces and special characters turn into hyphens, and everything is written in lower case.

  • Reserved addresses: A few names belong to the system, such as app, www, admin or editor. Then „Diese Adresse ist reserviert" (this address is reserved) appears and you simply pick another one.

If something doesn't fit, the field tells you right away, for example with „Mindestens 3 Zeichen" (at least 3 characters), „Maximal 30 Zeichen" (at most 30 characters) or „Nur Buchstaben, Zahlen und Bindestriche (nicht am Anfang/Ende)" (only letters, numbers and hyphens, not at the beginning or end).

Good to know: As soon as your page is published, the field is locked: „Die Subdomain kann nicht geändert werden, solange deine Seite veröffentlicht ist." (the subdomain can't be changed while your page is published). So think about the name calmly beforehand. You can still switch, though: you just take your page offline briefly for that.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own domain, for example anna-und-max.de?
No, your page always lives under unsere-einladung.de. In return you don't have to deal with anything technical, the address works straight away and securely.

I don't see a button for saving. Why is that?
Trying out and checking names is free. To save your address you need Premium. Without active Premium, it shows the note „Zum Veröffentlichen schaltest du einmal Premium frei. Der Knopf bringt dich direkt dorthin." (to publish, you unlock Premium once, the button takes you straight there) and the „Einladung veröffentlichen" (publish invitation) button takes you to Einstellungen → Premium freischalten (Settings → unlock Premium). Until then, your preferred address from your sign-up stays reserved for you for 30 days.

Do upper and lower case matter?
No. What you enter is automatically converted to lower case, so your guests can type the link however they like.
