Your date is set and the details are still allowed to grow? With the Save the Date you show your guests your names, the date and a personal message right now. In the meantime you can take your time over your complete invitation. It appears later under the same link.
Under Webseite (your website) you choose between Hochzeitsseite (wedding website) or Geburtstagsseite (birthday website) and Save the Date. Each area has its own editor and its own preview. The invitation you created in your AI setup stays just as it is. Changes to the Save the Date do not add any sections to your complete invitation.
Designing your Save the Date
Open Webseite → Save the Date. The overview shows your preview for phone and laptop along with the status, the address, the date and the running time.
Click Save the Date bearbeiten (edit save the date) to open its own editor. Your names, the date and an existing cover image are taken over from your event the first time you design it.
Adjust the title, the message, the place and the background. You can set the crop separately for desktop and phone.
Look at both previews. With Entwurf speichern (save draft) you keep your progress without changing the public page. Zur Save-the-Date-Übersicht (to the save the date overview) takes you back.
Click Save the Date veröffentlichen (publish save the date) as soon as everything feels right. That works in the editor and in the overview. For it you need an active website running time, a page address and an event date.
As long as nothing is published yet, the overview shows your saved draft. After that it shows the version you published last. New changes to your draft appear in the editor, and in the overview only after Save the Date aktualisieren (update save the date). If your running time has expired, the overview shows the status Offline and your preview stays private.
You manage the date centrally in your event settings. If it has changed, take the current date over in the Save the Date editor and publish the new version.
On the Save the Date page your guests only see the essentials. Through Termin vormerken (add to calendar) they can open an all-day appointment in Google Calendar or download a calendar file for Apple Calendar and Outlook. The sign-up and the other invitation sections only appear with the complete invitation.
Adjusting layout and style
In the Save the Date editor you find the card Layout und Stil (layout and style). This is where you design your Save the Date just as you know it from the cover image of your invitation.
Under Layout you choose between full screen, split and minimal, and you decide where your texts sit: left, centred or right, and above that top, middle or bottom. Under Funktionen (features) you can show a countdown to your big day and pick its style.
The button Termin vormerken always opens the calendar choice for your guests. Its text therefore stays the same, but you decide how it looks under Button. Under Farben (colours) you match the heading, the text and the button to your page. Every change shows up in the preview right away.
Your Save the Date in other languages
Are guests coming from further away? Below the preview in the Save the Date editor you find the card Sprachen (languages). You look after the languages of your Save the Date there completely independently of your invitation.
Click Sprache hinzufügen (add language) and pick the language you want.
Click Übersetzen (translate). The kicker, your names, the text and the place are translated for you automatically.
Through the three-dot menu, open Texte prüfen (review texts). Every line is there in German and in the translation, and you can adjust it yourself. Your changes are saved automatically.
Publish your Save the Date. Only then do your guests see the translation and can switch the language on the page.
As soon as you have added a language, small language pills appear above the preview. With them you look at your Save the Date in every language before you publish it.
If you change the German text later, the card shows Original geändert (original changed). Translate the language once more then, or adjust the line under Texte prüfen. Until then your guests read the German text in that spot. A language you no longer need you remove in the same menu through Sprache entfernen (remove language). The translation then disappears from your published page too, and your invitation is not affected by it.
Fixed texts such as the calendar button appear in English in languages without an interface of their own. If you protected your Save the Date with a password, the texts are in German at first after unlocking.
Sending your date out
Once it is published you can copy the link and share it personally. Under Einladungen → Save the Date (invitations) you also find your own email template with a preview and the recipient selection. You can write to single guests, to a selection or to everyone still open.
The Save the Date has a sending status of its own. Guests who received it stay open for the invitation that follows later. The two email templates are saved independently of each other as well.
Guests you have already written to are skipped during a normal send. You confirm a repeat explicitly. If a send was interrupted, you can carry on with the existing one.
Publishing the complete invitation
Under Webseite switch over to Hochzeitsseite or Geburtstagsseite and open the editor there. You always see the complete invitation, even while your guests are currently looking at the Save the Date. As long as you only save there, your Save the Date stays live unchanged.
When you publish, you confirm the switch to the complete invitation. From then on all your guests see the finished page under the same link, with your visible sections and the sign-up. Your Save the Date stays saved, and you can show it again at any time.
Under Einladungen → Einladung (invitations, invitation) you then send out the actual invitation. You do not have to reset any guest statuses beforehand.
Switching between Save the Date and invitation
Under your address exactly one of the two versions is visible at any time. Which one it is, is up to you.
Open Webseite → Save the Date. In the status card it says Was deine Gäste gerade sehen (what your guests are seeing right now), with both versions to choose from. You find the same switch on your wedding website or birthday website too.
Click the version that should be visible and confirm the question.
That is it. The address stays the same, and every link you have sent out leads straight to the version you picked.
A version can only be picked once you have published it. If there is a note on one of the options, publish that one first. To switch you also need an active website running time. If you took your page offline in your settings, the switch tells you so. Your choice then brings it back online.
While your Save the Date is visible, the sign-up, the guest book, the gallery and the sending of invitation emails are resting. As soon as you switch over to your invitation, everything is possible again as usual. That way you can still show a Save the Date you only create after the invitation.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if the date changes?
Change the event date in your settings, take it over in the Save the Date and publish the new version. Then let the guests you already wrote to know with another send. A calendar file that has been downloaded does not update itself.
Can I change the text after sending?
Yes. Save your changes as a draft first and publish them when they should be visible to guests. Your recipient list shows you when somebody received an older version.
Can I still start a Save the Date when my invitation is already published?
Yes. Design your Save the Date under Webseite → Save the Date and publish it. If your invitation is published, it stays visible while you do. Only when you switch to Save the Date in the switch do your guests see the date announcement.
If nothing is published yet, your Save the Date is visible under your address as soon as you publish it.
Do our links stay valid?
Yes, the address stays the same with every switch. If you change your subdomain in your settings, though, links and QR codes you sent out before will no longer work.
Can I translate the Save the Date?
Yes. In the card Sprachen (languages) in the Save the Date editor you have your Save the Date translated automatically, check the texts and adjust them yourself if you like.
