Moderating your guestbook

Read, approve or delete the messages your guests leave, including notifications and the settings of your guestbook section.

Written by Max Weber

A guestbook on your page is a wonderful thing: people write to you while you are still in the middle of the celebration. So that only kind words end up there, every message waits for your approval first. After that it is there for everyone to read straight away.

Approving messages

  1. Click Galerie (gallery) in the sidebar and switch to the Gästebuch (guestbook) tab at the top. If something is waiting for you, the number sits right next to it.

  2. Read the entry. Every card shows the guest's initials, their name (or „Anonymer Gast", an anonymous guest), date and time, a label saying „Wartet auf Freigabe" (waiting for approval) or „Freigegeben" (approved), and the message as a quote.

  3. Click „Freigeben". You briefly read „Eintrag freigegeben. Er steht jetzt in eurem Gästebuch." (Entry approved. It is now in your guestbook.) and your guest can be read on your page from that moment on.

If an entry does not belong there at all, use „Löschen" (delete). We ask once, and after that it is gone for good. There is no „Ablehnen" (turn down) here like there is for photos: a message either stays hidden until you approve it, or you delete it.

The list updates by itself. If somebody writes while you are looking, the entry appears without you reloading the page.

How you notice that something is waiting

  • The number next to „Galerie" in the sidebar. It counts waiting guestbook entries and waiting photos together.

  • The bell at the top right reports „Neuer Gästebuch-Eintrag" (new guestbook entry) with the line „… hat eine Nachricht hinterlassen. Sie wartet auf deine Freigabe." (… left a message. It is waiting for your approval.) One click opens the guestbook tab directly.

  • An email, at most once an hour, when messages are waiting for your approval.

You switch that email on or off under Einstellungen → Allgemein (settings, general) at E-Mail-Benachrichtigungen (email notifications) with the toggle „E-Mail bei neuen Gästebuch-Einträgen" (email about new guestbook entries). It applies to this event only.

What your guests need in order to write at all

Three things have to come together: the Gästebuch section is visible on your page, „Nachrichten erlauben" (allow messages) is on in its settings, and your page is published. Whether you ask for a name is up to you, with the toggle „Name erforderlich" (name required) in the same place.

Good to know: your guests know that you take a quick look. After sending they read „Deine Nachricht ist angekommen und erscheint, sobald die Gastgeber kurz draufgeschaut haben." (Your message has arrived and will appear once your hosts have taken a quick look.) So nobody types their greeting a second time just because they cannot find it in the list.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to publish after every approval?
No. Guestbook entries run past your draft. The moment you approve, the message is on your page.

Can I undo an approval?
Only by deleting. An approved entry cannot be hidden again, so read it in peace before you click „Freigeben".

How long may a message be?
Up to 2,000 characters, and the name up to 80. That is plenty for warm words and still keeps endless walls of text away.

What is an „Anonymer Gast"?
An entry without a name. If you would rather not have those, turn on „Name erforderlich" in the settings of your Gästebuch section and nobody gets through without one.

I cannot find the gallery on my phone.
Tap the bell at the top. Every guestbook notice leads straight to the right tab. The search at the top works just as well.
