How your link looks when you share it

How to set the title, description and preview image that show up when your page appears in chats and on Google.

Written by Max Weber

When you send your link into a WhatsApp group, a little preview card with an image, a title and a sentence appears there automatically. That card is often the very first impression your guests get of your celebration. You can shape it exactly the way you like it.

Customising your preview

  1. Open Einladungen (Invitations) and go to the section „Per Link teilen" (share via link).

  2. Next to „Vorschau beim Teilen" (sharing preview), click „Anpassen" (customise). The dialogue „Sharing-Vorschau anpassen" opens.

  3. Enter a title. It appears in the preview card and in search engines, for example „Anna & Max heiraten" (Anna and Max are getting married).

  4. Write a short description, one or two warm sentences are plenty.

  5. Pick a photo under „Vorschaubild" (preview image). You can upload one or search for a stock photo. It looks loveliest at 1200 x 630 pixels.

  6. Have a look at the live preview and keep everything with „Speichern" (save).

If you do not fill anything in

All three fields are optional. If they stay empty, we put something fitting in automatically, for a wedding something like „Anna & Max heiraten am 12. Juni 2027. Hier findest du alle Infos und kannst dich anmelden." (Anna and Max are getting married on 12 June 2027, here you will find all the details and can reply). For a birthday it reads accordingly. As the image we then take the background image of your first visible opening section. If there is none, the preview simply says „Kein Vorschaubild" (no preview image).

In the browser tab, by the way, your title appears as „Dein Titel | Unsere Einladung" (your title | Unsere Einladung).

Good to know: Messengers remember preview cards for a while. Links you have already sent out often still show the old version. It is best to test your new preview in a fresh chat.

Frequently asked questions

Does customising cost anything?
No, you can edit the title, description and image whenever you like. The card becomes visible to others as soon as your page is published.

Why are the sharing buttons greyed out?
Then your page is not published yet. You will see the note „Deine Seite ist noch nicht veröffentlicht. Veröffentliche sie zuerst im Editor, damit Gäste den Link öffnen können." (your page is not published yet, publish it in the editor first so your guests can open the link). As soon as it is live, you can copy and share.

Does the preview apply to the English version too?
Yes, the title and description apply to both languages. They are not translated along at the moment. If a lot of international guests are coming, it is best to word them so they work in both languages.

Will my page be found on Google?
The title and description are exactly what search engines show. If you would rather keep things among yourselves, set up a password as well.
